DIRECTOR, NUTRITION COMMUNICATION

The International Food Information Council (IFIC) is seeking an established professional with extensive knowledge and experience in communications and/or nutrition issues. The ideal candidate will be a high-energy team player, able to handle diverse facets of multiple programs and projects.

Responsibilities include the following consistent with IFIC’s Mission*:

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate annual communications plan(s) to accomplish the goals and objectives associated with communicating nutrition and health issues
  • Plan and direct qualitative and quantitative consumer and health professional research projects
  • Track and interpret evolving nutrition science
  • Analyze, assimilate, and articulate key food and nutrition information in the environment in order to increase the effectiveness of consumer messages
  • Share consumer insights with key opinion leader groups and consumers through targeted distribution, educational programs, serving as an organizational spokesperson, and providing referrals to outside experts or organizations as appropriate
  • Supervise other staff assigned to support programmatic activities, such that work is accomplished in a professional and timely manner
  • Supervise the development, distribution, and promotion of print, Web-based, and broadcast materials
  • Develop liaisons with governmental and third-party organizations
  • Develop annual budget for programs and oversee all expenditures in accordance with budgetary allowances
  • Develop and present accomplishments to Board of Directors and Board of Trustees
  • Provide professional expertise/contacts to other IFIC staff and serve as a leader/mentor when necessary and appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Relevant Qualifications:

  • Ten years plus experience, preferably corporate or non-profit, with a background in nutrition science (or registered dietitian), public health, and/or communications
  • Skilled in public speaking and group facilitation
  • Position located in Washington, DC
