International Food Information Council Releases New Communicator’s Guide: Plant Biotechnology 

(Washington, D.C.) — The International Food Information Council (IFIC) today announced the publication of the IFIC Communicator’s Guide: Plant Biotechnology, a new resource designed to help food and nutrition communicators improve public understanding of plant biotechnology and communicate effectively with their intended audiences. 

Amid ongoing public debate about the health and science behind genetically modified (GM) crops, clear and credible communication has never been more important. In the thirty years since the first GM crop came to market, extensive research has examined the safety, environmental impact, sustainability, nutritional qualities, and economic benefits of biotech crops—making them among the most studied foods in history. This evidence supports the consensus of numerous international regulatory bodies and health organizations that foods produced through biotechnology are as safe as conventionally produced foods, with tangible benefits for farmers, consumers, and the environment.
